Finding Your Forever Hair Person
who should I go to?
We have all been there. I need my hair done. It was ok. She did fine. I liked her. She’s related to my sister’s brother-in-law. I want in now.
Ok so you get the idea. Finding the right professional for you isn’t always easy. Here are a few things I hold in high regard when it comes to providing services.
Time. As a person with a full schedule myself I value a guests time as highly as I value my own. What does this mean? To me, I do not want to spend hours wasting away in a chair waiting for another busy person to get to me. I’m spending my dollars (and time!) and what I want is to have an appointment begin when I’ve scheduled it and to end within reasonable time related to the services I’m receiving. I am not saying rushed in and out with no attention given to detail either! What I’m saying is that I value efficiency. I like to start on time, fulfill all of my guest’s needs and then see them off so that they can share their great hair with the world.
Service. In my SAHM days getting out for a basic human experience was a really big deal. I went to get cut and color at a local place, a huge deal for me back then. I was pleased with my experience until the end when she totally crapped out on my blow dry. When I opened in 2016 I vowed I would not let clients leave without a bomb blow dry. A huge pet peeve is a shitty shampoo. It’s most peoples favorite part so it should be done right! One more thing is working clean. I set up the things I need and put them away as I finish. Being sloppy is unnecessary to me and I like to have a clean application of color because nobody wants stained skin or ruined clothing.
Details. A few key things I strive to provide are not difficult but often overlooked. Here they are: remembering things about your dear clients. Some examples: how they like the water temperature, which styling products they prefer, following up on their life events, hanging up their coat, offering drinks or reading material during processing time. These are all things that cost nothing and simply require paying attention to the needs of our clients.
Questions. Asking questions is a key element to providing an exceptional service. I start off many appointments with “how’s your hair?!” This is a chance for the guest to tell you what’s up with their do. From there I like to throw in “what do you want to change about it?” or “was there anything that you didn’t like” This is also where I give input like “your hair looks a little dry” or “I think you need something new” Through questions I’m then able to offer suggestions for new color, cuts, treatments and products. This is important because our job is to tell you our professional input!
Communication. It should be easy to get in touch and schedule. Offering online scheduling was one of the best things I have ever done for my guests. They love the convenience. I am also available via call or text, Facebook and Instagram. Another way I communicate is by talking to them face to face. I advise which services they need and what/how to schedule.
Records. WRITE THINGS DOWN! I record color formulas, processing time, results and even techniques utilized to help me provide consistency at each visit and have my own notes to look over.
Do awesome hair. I give my best to each client that sits down. I know I have made mistakes in fact you can rest assured I’m my own worse critic. But I will tell you that I’ve considered my mistakes and reflected on how to do better. My boss at Downstreet told me that people would get their hair done anywhere as long as it was good! So first and foremost I make it a priority to do my best!
These are just a few things that I value here. I know they’re different for everyone but it’s just a little insight into what I offer here.
